Myotherapy & Remedial Massage
Remedial massage is a massage based treatment used to treat a number of conditions affecting the muscles, tendons, and ligaments of the body.
Myotherapy is a form of manual therapy which uses evidence-based assessment, treatment and rehabilitation techniques to treat nerve, muscle and joint pain and dysfunction.
Here at Brunswick Myotherapy we like to use both methods. With all treatments we use Remedial Massage and Myotherapy Techniques. When you come into the clinic we will asses your injury and as part of the treatment we will use Cupping, Dry needling and Massage.
Dry Needling
Dry needling is probably what Myotherapists are known for. It involves the use of hypodermic needles. Dry needling is mainly used to treat myofascial “trigger points”, but it is also used to target connective tissue and muscular pain with restriction of movement.
Dry needling is a technique used to treat the dysfunction of muscles and connective tissue. It also has an analgesic response to pain, and it improves muscle tension.
Electric stimulation increase blood flow and can also provide an analgesic effect to help with pain management.
Cupping
Is an ancient form of alternative medicine where the therapist places a suction cup on the skin. Cups are usually glass or plastic.
The cups are left on your skin for a few minutes or the therapist may slide them to lift skin, tissue and fascia that may be tight.
Benefits of cupping? We use cupping with a purposes to help with pain, inflammation, blood flow, relax and stretch tight musculoskeletal tissue.
